Psalms 121: 1 – 8

I lift up my eyes to the hills– where does my help come from?

My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip– he who watches over you will not slumber;

indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD watches over you– the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

The LORD will keep you from all harm– he will watch over your life;

the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

REFLECTION

In life we go through storms, the ranging waters, fire, famine and other pestilences. When we hear their sounds, we tremble and fear for our lives because we don’t know how we will manage. We fear because we don’t want to fail, or loss or even die. Which is normal, I always imagine when Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego were faced with the danger of being thrown into the fire furnace it was not an easy pill to chew but they made up their minds not to bow regardless. They fixed their eyes on their Lord God.

In our scripture today the psalmist starts by lifting his eyes to the hills, where his help will come from. His help comes from the Lord, the maker of the heaven and the earth.

In whatever you are going through where are your eyes? Are you looking up to God for help or you are counting on your savings, your husband, your wealthy son or even your well to do parents? Those other hills will fail you during a storm. They have a limit; our God is unlimited.

Hard times are bound to come, when they come let them find you anchored in the Lord God. When a ship is anchored at the shore no mater the size of the storm it will be left standing as opposed to when it has no anchor, any wind will toss it right and left as it pleases. The depth of your roots in God, way before the storm will assure you survival after the storm.

Prepare early enough by investing in the kingdom of God to avoid breaking during the storm. You never know when and from where the storm will come. Put your faith in God in advance, read His word and pray every day.

The psalmist continues to say, “He who watches over Israel will neither sleep nor slumber”, what a beautiful thing? The watchmen we hire are mortal men who are overtaken by sleep and find themselves sleeping, but our God will never sleep on the job. What an assurance!

the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night”, 24 hours protection. It protects you from evil utterances programmed on the sun and the moon by evil men and women. Declare this verse when praying to nullify any evil word that comes to you as the sun rises during the day and as the moon shines at night.

He will watch your going out and your coming in, now and forever more. I feel like reciting the whole psalm again. This guarantee is eternal. It tells me the ranging water will strike but they will not harm me, the famine will come but I will not die. There is a God protecting me not only today but forever more. Amen.
