Mark 3: 20 – 27

Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. 21 When his familyheard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.”

So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house.

REFLECTION

Jesus was a son of God and as we have continued to learn, we know He carried power and authority from God. A crowd was always following Him, some because of the food they ate, others seeking to be healed while others were spectators and news reporters (to report to the pharisees what He did).

From our today’s reading He gets to a house and the crowd is after Him. His family who wanted to safeguard Him came to take charge saying, “He is out of His mind”. Can you imagine? The son of God out of His mind?

When you begin to walk in the authority of God do not expect people to understand. They live in the natural, you are walking in the supernatural. His own family said He out of His mind. The people who knew His identity; it tells me they still expected Him to be a normal child as much as He was God.

The teachers of the law did not make it better, they said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.” The same Jesus who went doing good everywhere He went is being told He is under the influence of demons. I don’t know what has been said about you that is demotivating you and killing your morale. Strengthen yourself in the Lord, Jesus faced it as well.

1 Corinthians 2:14

The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

1 Corinthians 2:14 explains why the Pharisees, Sadducees and the teachers of the law had a problem with Jesus and the various miracles he performed. They were in the flesh.

The Pharisees and the teachers of the law felt entitled to God. They saw Jesus as one who blasphemes their God. They felt they knew more about the scriptures and that is why Christ said the kingdom of heaven is for the children (those who take the gospel as it is).

For us to walk in spiritual authority, we need to uphold unity. Jesus said a kingdom divided among itself cannot stand. Do not be quick to judge and condemn your brother; it is by grace you are what you are.

To enter a strong man’s house, one must bind him up before he can take anything from his house. This teaches about spiritual supervision; the kingdom of darkness has hierarchy as well. That’s why the bible says in Ephesians 6:12: For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

I don’t know how you are fighting your battles, but I challenge you to take them to the heavenly realms if you need victory here on earth. Your boss for example, could not be the problem it could be the power empowering him/her. Before asking your husband to change handle the spirit behind his actions.

PRAYER

Oh Lord God almighty I come before your throne of mercy to ask for mercy and grace to enable me to walk in your wisdom as I engage in spiritual warfare. I pray that I will carry grace to be able me to bind up every strong man that is against my life, my family and the things that concerns me. I pray for resilience even as I face difficulties and misunderstandings in Jesus name I pray and believe, amen.
